The design of the tent for Design Miami/ - a design event centered around limited edition furniture exhibitions and a series of talks examining issues in contemporary design - explored the deconstruction of a generic event tent through a series of cuts and folds.
The tent's standard flat vinyl panels were manipulated by a simple pattern of hand-cut slits, folded to simultaneously open the panels and create a volumetric surface. The pattern was then deployed across the tent in a gradual fade, transitioning from a flat, closed surface to an airy, latticed volume. The end result is an open-air, light-dappled courtyard which served as the entrance to Design Miami.
