Located on a15-foot-wide lot in the heart of Midtown Toronto, this two-story hair salon demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform spatial constraints into architectural opportunities.

Upon entry, visitors are greeted by a dramatic two-story opening that spans the front of the salon. This vertical expanse creates an immediate sense of openness and airiness, countering the narrow footprint and offering a striking first impression.

Just behind the reception desk, the color section has been strategically placed near the entrance. With its organized display of pigments and tools, it creates an inviting and visually pleasing environment—an intentional design move that sparks curiosity and subtly encourages clients to explore coloring services.

To bring warmth and a sense of continuity with the building’s history, a portion of the original red brick wall was preserved and left exposed behind the hair-washing area. This textured backdrop adds character and contrast to the clean interior finishes, subtly blending the old with the new.

The spa, located in the basement, offers a serene retreat from the bustle of the street-level salon. Direct access from the main entrance ensures both privacy and convenience, while the lower-level placement contributes to a calm atmosphere ideal for relaxation.

At the rear of the second floor, an open rooftop seating area provides clients with fresh air and an outdoor escape, whether waiting for a service or unwinding post-appointment.
