To create a space in a historical building in Milan that also reflects Georgian cultural elements and cuisine. The space laid out in the two areas had to be equally welcoming, yet different.

What were the key challenges? Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia wanted to bring a clear and strong esthetical sense to the space, minimalistic but brutal in a way… To create a feeling of wholeness and togetherness, that is common to a Georgian traditional feast called Supra. Custom, hand-painted textiles are used as curtains in the main room acting as imaginary borders of the area that unifies the space. Repetitive motifs create a meditative atmosphere.

The second room of the restaurant carries the charm of the Milanese historical building itself and the space for them is reminiscent of apartments in Tbilisi. So, Janberidze and Toloraia wanted to evoke the recognition of these characteristics.

What materials did you choose and why? The restaurant’s design is anchored using simple shapes, raw and natural materials, and repeating motifs from Georgian culture. Pieces on display are of various local stones, hand-carved wood, and tapestries. A new, bottom-to-ceiling wall of the library

shelves – the Archive Wall Cabinet part of Rooms Studio’s DNA Archives collection – houses a mixture of old books, authentic Georgian artifacts, and unique sculptures created by various artists.
