Nestled in midtown Toronto, the Gillian Gillies Interiors studio is designed to feel like an extension of the homes we create — a welcoming, layered space that invites both creativity and conversation. Our studio is not just where ideas begin, but where they are nurtured and brought to life with intention. I was my own client and the brief was to create a home from home for myself and my team. We had a builder grade drywall box to transform.
From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by soft natural light, tactile finishes, and a sense of calm. We layered warm woods, hand-crafted furnishings, and bespoke details to create an atmosphere that balances professionalism with comfort — natural materials that would wear and weather well. The space is layered with textiles and wallpaper which helps with noise dampening. It is important to us that clients feel immediately at ease — as though they are entering a home rather than a workplace.
The open plan layout allows us to collaborate easily as a team, while quieter corners are reserved for focused design work and one-to-one conversations. A large sample library anchors the space, brimming with textiles, finishes, and objects that clients can touch and experience first-hand. Inspiration boards and flat-lays in progress often fill the studio, offering glimpses into the rhythm of our projects.
Above all, the studio embodies our ethos of “frictionless living.” Every element has been considered — from the flow of natural light to the choice of colours and textures — so that the space supports us in the same way we aim to support our clients’ homes: beautiful, functional, and deeply personal.
