Hotel Der Florenberg

Hotel der Florenberg

herbertarchitekten as Architects

For more than 300 years the Florenberg in Künzell has been a popular inn. From the natural hilltop, on which the restaurant is located next to an old church from the year 915, you can see far into the Rhön and over the city of Fulda. No wonder that a beer garden was built at the founding of the Florenberg 1711 besides a guest- and ballroom. Here you just want to be outside and enjoy the view.

In 2016, the owners Angelika, Leonora and Günter Frohnapfel decided to give the ensemble, which had evolved over decades, a new structure. The idea was to create a hotel. Looking from the bed to the mountain Wasserkuppe - that excited the restaurateurs from the Florenberg.

The solution initially seemed to fail because of monument protection. Then family Frohnapfel brought us on board and felt comfortable with our design. We had agreed the plans with the authorities early on. The simple, modern new building with 18 comfortable double rooms and a hall fits into the existing ensemble - a successful combination of tradition and modernity.

We were pleased that we were also able to reshape the beer garden - so everything fits together!
