House at the brick pond

House at the brick pond

Juri Troy Architects as Architects

Around an old brick pond in the northern part of Burgenland there is a settlement of single-family houses in which a new residential house has been built. The simple structure fits ideally into the north-western area of this settlement and extends from north-west to south-east. The building is complemented by a carport in the west.

On the street side, the building is accessed via the basement. In addition to the study and a granny flat, a staircase leads to the living level, which is offset by one mezzanine. The spacious kitchen-living area in the south is connected to the garden at ground level and takes advantage of the view over the neighbouring fields via an inserted loggia. The next mezzanine floor houses the bedrooms and the sanitary rooms.

The half-timbered construction in the kitchen-living room allows for generous room height and an open feeling of space. The loggia adjoins the kitchen-living room at ground level, creating a protected connection to nature - oriented away from the settlement.

The solid reinforced concrete basement is topped by 1,5 solid wood storeys. The cross-laminated timber construction is insulated with cellulose and covered with a silver fir top layer on the inside. Vertical battens made of silver fir form the façade. The building is heated with an air-source heat pump.
