DT House is a single-family home that carefully settles between the existing buildings on a long, irregular plot. It aligns with its neighbours while establishing a rhythm of its own. On the upper floor, the volume subtly steps back from the neighbour to the right, lowering in height to preserve light, air and privacy.
At the rear, the house opens generously towards a prominent tree that gives the site its identity. The living space – centred around a sunken seating area – forms the heart of the home. Together with a centrally positioned fireplace, it organises the kitchen, home office and dining area around it. From each of these spaces, there are direct and inviting views of the garden.
In addition to the main living areas, the ground floor also accommodates a bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom, located close to the living space, can flexibly function as a playroom or hobby room. Upstairs are a child’s bedroom, a bathroom and the parents’ bedroom, the latter enjoying views over the garden.
Windows to the bathrooms and openings facing neighbouring properties are fitted with breezeblocks, ensuring privacy without sacrificing daylight. On the south side, a canopy extends over the terrace, providing shade from the sun while acting as an extension of the interior. The terrace is complemented by an outdoor fireplace and bordered by a wall that conceals an outdoor storage area and a side entrance leading to the kitchen pantry.
The architecture connects to its surroundings through the use of red-brown brick, while distinguishing itself through the composition of volumes and window openings. Exposed concrete elements, white timber exterior joinery and refined wooden accents give the house a contemporary character. A white concrete edge runs through the project as a unifying detail, visually tying the various elements together into one coherent whole.
