To keep up with ever-changing medical advancements, Karmanos Cancer Institute sought to expand and update their facility at the Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center. These enhancements will serve Karmanos in their continuous efforts to provide first-rate diagnostics and treatment for their nearly 14,000 annual patients. We collaborated with Karmanos to understand their evolving service offerings and provide solutions that would not disrupt their normal operations or high-level patient care.
Working closely with project stakeholders, our team designed facility enhancements around the comfort of patients and their families with a new spa-influenced theme. Our team provided comprehensive architecture and engineering services for the nearly 51,400 SF medical center renovation and expansion. The design features will build upon the current architecture of the building and introduce a modern design that aligns with the future growth of oncology programs to be offered at the facility.
The first phase of the project expanded the radiation area to offer the latest advancements in radiation oncology, imaging bays, and additional services, including research, procedure rooms, and an interventional radiology suite. The second phase of the project will renovate the infusion, laboratory, and pharmacy areas, clinic care space, and areas where support services and survivorship programming are held.
To accommodate the overall programming of this project, our team developed a phased project approach to meet the needs of staff, patients, and their families while keeping the facility fully operational. When complete, the new and renovated space will help support Karmanos' mission to provide leading diagnostics and cancer treatment services, all within a comfortable environment.
