The Fahrweid district of the municipality of Weiningen is located near the Dietikon railway station between the Limmat and the motorway. The characteristic arch shape of the former Fahrweid floodplain landscape is still present in the settlement area through the topography and the wooded areas.
The three buildings lined up along the arched road follow the urbanistic interpretation of the traditional suburb. The polygonal geometry of the houses allows the buildings to address the street and at the same time to orientate themselves towards the green space, allowing a good sun exposure to all of the 93 rental apartments.
The exterior walls, which are set at an angle to each other, form different residential landscapes in interaction with the private exterior spaces set back from the alignment of the façades. Window openings specific to each apartment create a varied façade image that reflects the interior spaces to the outside. The facade material composed of small-format ceramic tiles in stony colours supports the thematic reference of the housing estate to the alluvial landscape with its gravelly ground.
