Kings Cross Station, Redevelopment

Pascall+Watson as Architects

The award-winning redevelopment fuses the restoration of the historic Grade I listed rail terminus with an iconic new concourse, to deliver a spectacular multi-modal transport hub.

The dramatic redevelopment of King’s Cross Station could only have been realised via the collaborative efforts of a large team of dedicated personnel.

Pascall+Watson’s involvement centred around the creation of a new semi-circular Western Concourse, three times bigger than the previous one, to sit beneath the spectacular curving latticed roof. The generous new concourse extends the station to the west of its seven Grade 1 listed buildings, (which were refurbished and redeveloped as part of the project), providing passengers with a new and expansive retail offer. The line of the retail frontage responds to the curvaceous form of the roof creating a lively and bespoke elevation full of visual interest.

The significant redevelopment unifies the station’s facilities, offering greatly improved access to services on the Underground, the Thameslink station and the adjoining St Pancras International Station. Successfully delivered whilst keeping the station fully operational, the building offers a revitalised passenger experience and has increased capacity to over 33 million passengers a year.

The CEEQUAL rated development has proven to be a catalyst for the rejuvenation of the surrounding area and has been recognised with a number of significant industry awards.
