Kell Muñoz Architects’ design of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center provides the facilities necessary to support the rapidly growing science programs of the College of Science & Technology at Texas A&M International University.
The three-story Science Center includes classrooms, instructional laboratories, a 128-seat lecture hall, a planetarium, academic spaces, and offices. In addition, research laboratory spaces for both faculty and graduate student research are included in the Center.
A state-of-the-art planetarium is also located in the Science Center, and is used as an educational resource for citizens of all ages in the Laredo, Texas community. The College of Science & Technology acquired a 12-inch telescope and a portable observatory to complement the new planetarium.
The Firm’s design of the Science Center builds on the campus’ existing design theme and details. With hipped tile roof forms, brick, glass and other materials, the design of this project aspires to both strengthen the establishment of the University’s campus and continue the campus’ current design tradition.
