Lampadina café-wine bar is located in the old port of Corfu, in the area "Spelia", on the ground floor of a typical example of a 19th century multistorey buiding.

The necessary removals of plasterboard walls & ceilings revealed the forgotten structural "honesty". The surrounding brickwalls with the characteristic red brick "vault" over the openings, as well as the almost irregular pattern of the ceiling timber beams were elements crucial to maintain and restore. The building itself began to "pave the way" of architectural design.

The textures and colors palette, came to enrich the concept around the lamp and the characteristic Corfiot word "candle". Light in architecture is the intangible material. This addition to the palette gave rise to the use of Viennese Straw. As a timeless element, the Viennese Straw was the binding element that can be found in various points. The Viennese straw "Plays" with the light in the perforated frames of the wall lamps, "dresses" the facade of the bar and "embraces" the armchairs of the sitting area.

On the facades of the store, the smallest possible intervention was chosen as inside. On the main façade, its symmetrical organization was preserved, while on the rear façade, pre-existing architectural elements of the façade emerged, such as the frames from older openings, witnessing the palimpsest of the timeless life of the buildings of the old city.

The architects during the design process have tried to form a smart casual space. A composition whose materials, intensively earthy and natural, allow the visitor to enjoy the space and its facilities. The simple forms and lines were chosen to give an elegant feeling and create a familiar and cozy atmosphere. A composition of modern spatial experiences harmonized with references to the past. "Lampadina" aims to be an elegant and timeless choice in the city of Corfu.
