Lavington House

The clients set a brave and trusting brief, they knew they needed more space, more bedrooms and living space for a growing family but they allowed the practice the freedom to decide how else the brief should be set.

What were the key challenges?
The quality of the existing building, the location in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and delivering a very ambitious brief for a relatively small budget. We weren’t scared to try completely new ways of doing things in this sector to try and overcome these challenges.

What materials did you choose and why?
Stained softwood cladding - to relate to the existing white painted clapboarding on the existing building. We also matched the roof tiles so we could keep and extend the life of the existing roof. We chose aluminium framed glazing for performance and to achieve the large openings required.
