Mosaiko bar, takes its name from its beautiful mosaic floors. Since its opening, five years ago, Mosaiko has become a point of reference in the Athenian night life scene, as it combines exquisite cocktails with great music. The tiny bar located in the South suburbs of the Greek capital, is renowned for its "big in small" nights, where regulars get a chance to see big names of the underground music scene, in its cozy, industrial space.
Young architect Eleftherios Ambatzis was recently asked to reinvent the favorite hang-out. He redesigned the bar's facade now boasting grand glass surfaces framed by a thin, black iron structure. The use of glass is meant to open up the view to the busy street, transforming the double-ceiling bar space into a lively tunnel leading the visitor to the well-hidden, secret back yard.
The architect made one more key intervention which turns all eyes to the bar's joy and pride, the extraordinary variety of rare and premium spirits. He redesigned the back-bar and installed a shelving unit which appears as if it miraculously emerges from the wall. This elaborate system of shelves, was a structural experiment and has now become the focal point in the otherwise minimal space.
