MASS lab was announced as one of the four finalists in the Nordic Built Cities Challenge Competition in the Faroe Islands, for the construction of a masterplan in an area of over 45,000 m².
Among the finalists are still Hyde Architects (UK), Cuartoymitad Architecture & Landscape (Spain) and White Architects (Sweden). The competition objectives are the construction of a residential neighborhood in a steep terrain located on the east hill of Runavík and with views over the fjord.
Given the extent of the land and the complex construction requirements, Mass Lab designed a spatial organization that values the public space and reflects the social ambition of the project.
This concept - EVERY PATIO IS FRAMED BY 4 HOUSES AND EVERY MODULE IS SURROUNDED BY 4 GARDENS – is the departure point for our contemporary proposal for the vertical challenge.
We are interested in having a dense and porous urbanization where the common areas become a continuous urban landscape with playgrounds, gardens and urban farms.
