Piccalilli is a meta-magical sortie into a culinary imagination. It is a fantastical, mythical meeting of the American southeastern seaboard and low Asian seas, a playground of bar brow and fine dining. It was conceived as a waypoint, a coordinate in the future, where two lovers hope to meet when all has failed. Our beacon is electrified for them and for all others, a call to magic that humanity will continue.

The neon signs Piccalilli, the other face in reverse, mirrored with moth. The shadow at the edges dusts the buzz of tropical pop, as our unknown future forever shadows us. Piccalilli is thick with nostalgia for the pure time before. Garden and fluted sconces conjure southern sweetness. Magical animals inhabit a wood of purple heart. A child’s memory changes moths to butterflies in a lenticular art piece that moves only as you look at it.

We created the lover’s narrative, where Piccalilli exists as a glowing island of imagination in a decayed world. We created fresh-pop with a shadow, a reference to what happened or what can come to pass. We developed the brand identity with moth and then brought this into light, literally. In partnership with our lighting designer, we manufactured the first architectural blacklight lighting ever.

We paired blacklight with jeweler’s light to both amplify the color of our chef’s botanicals, and to create a double shadow on table, one grey, one lavender. Part shadow, mirrored and magical, Piccalilli is a collapse of time and a complicated multiplicity in aesthetic that if viewed superficially, only reveals the first face.
