Queensland University of Technology Q Block Redevelopment

Queensland University of Technology Q Block Redevelopment

QUT engaged dwp|suters to reinvent this nine level 40 year old building on Gardens Point Campus as a state of the art life sciences teaching facility. The project creates a leading class 3D medical radiation teaching facility and a 150 student multidisciplinary ‘SuperLab’ which incorporates world class technologies in a single, flexible, open, dynamic teaching laboratory. dwp|suters also designed a new workplace to accommodate over one hundred administration and academic staff; transforming a traditional cellular office environment into an open plan, collaborative workplace.

The original main entrance had been overtaken by campus development and required a new architectural solution. We addressed this by reorienting the building and introducing a large new entrance which clearly defines the entry point. The building exterior is comprehensively refreshed and resolved building performance and compliance issues. We facilitated a challenging fast track program requiring completion by the start of the academic year by ongoing, close communication with all stakeholders and effective subconsultant coordination.
