This project for a new fieldhouse for the City of Toronto upgrades and replaces existing public recreational facilities within a mature and well-used five acre public park.
The design intention was to transcend technical programmatic requirements by creating a signature building, as well as clarifying functional and circulation relationships into and within the park.
The pavilion is intended to function as a support structure for community activities in the park – baseball, tennis, soccer, picnicking, etc in the summer / ice skating in the winter.
The programmatic elements include a community room for meetings, a skate change room for the outdoor skating rink, washrooms, a snack bar for summer social activities, as well as service spaces - a garage. for the Zamboni ice-grooming machine refrigeration equipment for the rink, and janitorial and storage areas.
