Residence 111 is a minimalist architecture project located in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California, designed by Michael Kramer. The facade is composed of smooth troweled white stucco with black metal accents and detailing.
The clear western cedar battens define the large-scale glazing and pocketing walls of glass The material palette is restrained in nature, European wide plank oak floors and Grayed Italian Oak blend with matte white and matte black lacquers. Grigio Emperador stone, blackened steel, and Paperstone complete the palette.
Walls are pale lime wash with flush-to-wall full height flush doors. Piet Boon basins and tapware contrast the neutral tones.
Sliding walls open and close off the living spaces providing a sense of intimacy or openness. Trimless and flush details help to keep the walls and ceilings clutter free. The top floor is flooded with natural light and the architectural steel plate staircase bounces light throughout the three levels of living space.
The monolithic stone island provides workspace and an informal cantilevered seating area. Large scale walls of pocketing glass connect to the outdoor spaces and garden.
