Social renting in Rotterdam. That's Roseknoop. Rotterdam South is renewing and densifying with a broad mix of housing. Our design for the block, on the central-south corner of the urban plan for Parkstad, is a sturdy Rotterdam building that emphatically provides spacious, social family homes. Neighbourhood residents are given priority there. The architecture is robust, with powerful round forms and coarse, golden-brown brickwork. Panoramic facades provide spectacular views and openness.
Connecting to high Rotterdam
The tower and the gallery block are oriented towards the Putselaan - an important traffic connection in Rotterdam South. The remaining dwellings are located along the existing Hilledijk and two newly created residential streets. On this side, Roseknoop borders the park. Because of the adjacent dike, the ground level in the residential streets is 1.8 metres higher than at the corner Hillendijk-Putselaan. The tower has 15 storeys and a weaving pattern throughout the façade, making it a height accent in the larger area.
Space to live, space to grow
Roseknoop offers exceptionally large homes for the social segment: spacious single-family homes on a green street in the low-rise and spacious flats with spectacular views in the tower. Roseknoop stands for human-quality living in a proud building, a valuable addition to the proud city of Rotterdam.

Scale, rhythm and colour of the neighbourhood
The external façade is composed of a single expressive, reddish-brown brick. The brick is processed horizontally and vertically in a braiding pattern to give the tower an all-sided, moving skin. Alignment takes place through the rising ground level, variations in façade appearance and eaves heights. Besides ensuring a flowing coherence, the round, closed corners refer to the locally common bevelled corners. These corners, together with the continuous façade bands and eaves, bind it together.

At the centre of the all-sided block is a courtyard with the back gardens of the single-family houses and a collective garden, where residents can meet. The plinth of the gallery block provides space for social interpretation or a catering function, and further includes the entrance and other communal functions.
