The building is located in the area called "New Houses" on the part of the municipality of Villanueva del Río, which has been declared of cultural interest, with the category of historic town, in February 2002.

The "New Houses" neighborhood was built at the beginning of the 20th century to house the miners of an industrial-mining complex. While the shape of the plot were invited, at first, to place the main facade of the Pavilion, the longest, facing the Plaza of Spain, a number of considerations led us to pose the major axis of the building rotated 90 degrees.

These considerations are:

1. A functional reason: It is the most appropriate orientation for natural lighting of the sports ground.

2. A bioclimatic reason: This orientation reduces the surfaces of walls exposed to the worst solar orientations in summer in Andalusia; East and West.

3. An urban design reason: This situation allows to maintain views and open perspectives towards the surrounding rural territory.

In this way we designed a small square, open to the rural landscape that serves as access to the Sports Pavilion. The building has two clearly distinct volumes: the ship that houses the sportsground, of greater height and the volumen where the minor spaces as changing rooms, toilets, warehouses and access spaces are arranged.
