The four seasons
Jan de Vries

De vier jaargetijden

With this plan for approximately 240 homes, the competition for the urban restructuring of the Dura-Slikkerveer site in Ridderkerk was won. The original Dura-Coignet flats have been demolished. The existing impressive row of trees is preserved and forms part of the cross-shaped, green pedestrian zone that divides the site into different quadrants. Additionally, three residential towers provide direction to this inner area.

Changes in terrain levels align with the spatial effect of the Ridderkerkse Ringdijk, which nowadays no longer runs alongside the river but cuts through the municipality. Key to the plan are the semi-sunken parking garages, which allow the inner area to remain completely car-free. The facades featuring decorated brickwork, zinc roofs, and steel details reference the nearby shipyards where many residents of Slikkerveer work or have worked.
