Al-Futtaim Motors appointed Greenspace in February 2014, on the strength of the consultancy’s approach to creating legacy experience destinations, alongside its history of work for Toyota Motor Europe and other automotive retail brands.
The Toyota Wave is an iconic architectural destination in Abu Dhabi that sets new, world class customer experience standards for car buying and servicing and reinforces both Al-Futtaim Motors and Toyota’s leadership position in the UAE.
Following a strategic review of the AFM and Toyota brands in the UAE, Greenspace formulated the legacy idea, ‘Passion for Better’ to guide the design of the architectural interiors following rigorous circulation and customer journey planning.
Greenspace founder Adrian Caddy says, “We wanted the entire space to feel as if has been constructed from light waves, drawing the intensity of the exterior light through the building via the horizontal light contours on every floor.”
The signature style of the entire interior space uses simple, mathematical lines and radiuses. The curved lines of the Wave exterior are echoed along the length of each floor by suspended white fins that are contoured from the front to the back of each floor.
The new retail flagship and service centre experience is spread across five levels, 14,000 square metres and houses more than 80 new and used vehicles. Itfeatures a series of customer attractionsincluding a digital design studio, cafe and a familyentertainment centre for youngdrivers.
The new award-winning retail flagship and service centre experience is augmented by digital interactivity on every floor, providingcustomerswithinformation, shopping, leisure and gameficationexperiences through multiple touchpoints, all designed by Greenspace.
For the flagship exteriors, Greenspace designed a lightingsystemcapable of playinganimatedvideosequences.
Caddy says, “We installedover 1,600 square metres of programmable LEDs whicheffectivelyturns the entire front facadeinto an enormousscreen. Itallowsus to playanimations, messages and film content that canbeseen from a greatdistance”.
Saud Abbasi, managingdirector of Toyota at Al-Futtaim Motors, said: "We are delightedwith the dedicated work and progress Greenspace has achievedover the pasttwoyears, helpingusmaterialiseour customer-first vision and elevateourguests experience to new heights, through an ultra-modern, welcoming and seamless journey."
