This Project began when Mr.Narongchai Jerapanidchakul, executive and owner of Vinotto – an Italian distributor of luxury furniture – wanted to expand the showroom and sales space of the original Vinotto branch in Soi Thonglor, and moved the complex to the new site on Sukhumvit 26.
Each single brand that Vinotto imports has a different and unique character - some are classical, some are modern. The client’s requirement was that this new building would clearly differentiate itself from typical furniture showrooms. Design and construction phases were also limited by time, as the client needed the building to be built as fast as possible before a new shipment of imported products were to arrive in 6 months time. Presented with these design constraints, Hypothesis found a solution in the use of steel.
Steel was used to reduce the time of construction, but this presented a challenge - how could steel be used to unite and represent the eclectic nature of the furniture collection? This question led the architects to an interesting conclusion: rusted steel was used to express the notion of decay and age, providing a contrasting backdrop to the pristine furniture pieces - highlighting each of their different styles in a timeless manner.
