Vue Sutton is located in the picturesque Bromont region of southern Quebec. Designed by MUUK architecture + construction, the home embodies the essence of northern architecture, with its restrained elegance, use of natural materials, and a weather-resilient design. A quiet haven in nature, Vue Sutton is designed with considerable respect for its surroundings.

Inspired by nature

Set on a scenic piece of land, Vue Sutton’s modest design respects the essence of its natural surroundings. Inspired by nature, MUUK’s design reflects a dialogue between the home’s exterior and interior. The studio’s architectural intention was to create a project grounded in simplicity, its form and materiality deeply influenced by the land.

A respect for nature

Vue Sutton is gently anchored on a plateau, its design conforming to the slope of the site. Less than one percent of existing trees were removed during the home’s construction. At the front, a transparent glass opening in the single-storey facade marks the entrance, drawing the eye inwards to vistas of the forest and mountains. Locally sourced natural stone frames the entrance glazing, while a lightweight slatted wall defines the terrace on the right-hand side.

On the rear, a two-level volume steps downwards with the landscape. Black metallic siding extends to meet the metallic gable roof, a feature that is typical of the region’s northern architecture.

While the more discreet front of Vue Sutton is designed to maintain a sense of privacy, the home’s rear opens up across two levels, with large windows framing its spectacular views.

A quiet haven in nature

The bedrooms occupy a south-facing wing that follows the natural slope of the land, with the main suite on the upper level seemingly suspended among the treetops.

The open and spacious interior is bright, clean, and unassuming. A neutral material palette, including concrete floors and wooden elements, provides a quiet backdrop, heightening the play of natural light and drawing focus to the surrounding forest views.

Vue Sutton’s interior design capitalises on the home’s scenic location, its thoughtful architecture providing a quiet haven for its inhabitants.

In addition, the home's orientation harnesses passive solar gains, and, combined with a high-performance thermal envelope, this reduces operational carbon.
