Nestled within a dense neighbourhood, just off Carter Road in Mumbai, an old house has been converted into a wellness space through adaptive reuse. Over time, it has had permanent extensions to its structure and thus, we’ve created further extensions to this by layering it with newer programs, like a palimpsest.
At its core, the wellness centre is anchored by a classroom where we consciously exposed the weathered brick walls of the old structure. Yoga studios and cabins surrounding the core are made of bamboo extensions, natural stones and textures, enveloping visitors in a tactile and sensory embrace while the transparent roof allows light to flood the space.
