An Entangling Forest of Imagination and Fun
Wired Scape is an innovative playscape nestled within a residential district of Guangzhou, China. Conceived by 100architects, the project merges the essence of natural landscapes, the elegance of fluid geometries, and the excitement of open-ended play into a one-of-a-kind public destination for all ages.
Drawing inspiration from Guangzhou’s diverse natural environments, the design interprets two fundamental elements—Forest and Flowing Water—through abstract geometries and sculptural forms. The result is a forest-like playscape where every element appears as if spun from wires, wrapping around trees to form highly tactile, richly textured volumes.
The most iconic feature is the group of four sculptural “trees” at the heart of the playscape. These climbable structures are formed by pipes that spiral around central cores, resembling woven orbs. They serve both as vertical play elements and shaded canopies, interconnected by hanging bridges that invite exploration and imaginative play across different levels.
Inspired by the sinuous motion of rivers, the ground is patterned with colorful, curving lines that flow throughout the space. These lines define a “wired landscape” that stitches together multiple zones—playful plazas, relaxing platforms, and circulation paths—into a continuous and visually captivating environment.
Directly in front of the sculptural trees, a subtle sunken plaza functions as a playful amphitheater or “sunken lake,” offering a cozy spot for gatherings, performances, or quiet rest.
Wired Scape breaks away from the conventions of traditional playgrounds by creating a multi-generational environment. Children enjoy imaginative features that stimulate both motor and cognitive skills—climbing, jumping, sliding, and exploring. Parents and caregivers find shaded seating areas with clear sightlines, offering comfort and peace of mind while staying involved in the play experience. Young adults are drawn to the space’s sculptural aesthetics, photogenic details, and social appeal, making it a destination that is both playful and Instagram-friendly.
Throughout the landscape, visitors encounter a rich variety of interactive elements: swings, seesaws, spring seats, a round ping-pong table, merry-go-rounds, and sculptural seating. These elements encourage both physical activity and social interaction, while generous shading and multiple access points ensure year-round comfort and inclusivity.
Wired Scape is not just a space for recreation—it is a catalyst for well-being. It promotes physical health through movement and exercise, and mental health through creativity, social engagement, and moments of calm.
As night falls, Wired Scape transforms once again. Carefully embedded ornamental lighting traces select lines across the wired surfaces and ground, creating a sublime nocturnal effect. What is a vibrant forest by day becomes an enchanted, glowing landscape by night—extending the magic into the evening hours.
Ultimately, Wired Scape stands out as a bold and artistic statement within Guangzhou’s urban fabric. It celebrates the convergence of fluid silhouettes, forest-inspired structures, and collective joy—a new urban landmark where nature, play, and community coexist in a vibrant, ever-changing environment.
