The Wooden Chapel, part of the Open Mind Places initiative in Sauerland, is a collaborative project led by the village of Sögtrop near Schmallenberg. Constructed from reused oak beams each donated by people from the surrounding area. The chapel’s structure features vertically stacked wood, lending it a raw, natural aesthetic. The chapel’s interior follows the natural topography of the hill. As the ground gently slopes downward, a series of steps is seamlessly integrated into the design, functioning both as seating and as a way to experience the space on multiple levels.
