YOU.ME Design Place Hotel

Simone Micheli as Architects

Essentiality of volumes, fluidity of spaces bear the signature of Simone Micheli. You.Me Design Place Hotel a hospitable place respecting the principles at the base of his works, that is identity, hybridization and contamination.

In the heart of Trieste, just steps from the sea, the iconic accommodation facility has come to life - You.Me Design Place Hotel - whose name hint at the symbiosis between the guest and the space which will receive him/her. Among the most fascinating European cities, this port city is a cultural melting pot from all over the world. Today, Trieste is a destination of great interest both for tourism and for business trips.

Its dynamic character, and its “surly grace" sung by Umberto Saba, inspired the design of the You.Me Design Place Hotel, few steps from Piazza Unità d’Italia. Its strategic location and its exquisitely contemporary look make this innovative hotel the preferred choice of a modern lively clientele, in search of alternative accommodation, designed to place the whole person at the centre of the spaces.

I imagined a different dimension, outside the everyday space-time, a symbol of uniqueness and other visions, to give shape to You.Me. I thought of celebrating the relationship between host and guest through the enhancement of the word, which becomes an effigy and therefore an integral part of the anti-canonical arched system. I conceived this volumetric area as a work, to be offered to Trieste and to passionate users. You.Me wants to express, through its essence, the two-way relationship and osmosis that exists between animate and inanimate things.

You.Me tells a story related to the new luxury that is not made of opulence and redundant geometries but of simplicity, essentiality and wonder. You.Me effectively represents the materialisation of a renewed relationship between space, man and time. It is a real three-dimensional work of art, able to generate attraction, amazement, memory. It is constructive power and generating force capable of creating a communicative flywheel of significant importance. "The beauty of the cosmos is given not only by unity in variety, but also by variety in unity," wrote Umberto Eco.

Thus You.Me Design Palace Hotel becomes the vehicle through which the current meaning of contemporary pleasure comes to life, spreads a new and disruptive sense of beauty. The performing geometries alter the permanent tradition and with a candid and essential look, shape the entire enclosed space, in which man is the main actor: the fulcrum from which energy unfolds.

In the three-dimensional areas that make up the hotel, the word becomes architectural nodality and the color, as impalpable as white or pearl grey, becomes physical matter to be modelled and combined with the energetic flow of the volumetric elements. The precious and refined surfaces, the mirrors that reflect the multiplicity of meaning of existence, the images that blend together past, present and future, become tangible signs, containers of unambiguous messages, which, with the lighting vibrations, characterise the common areas and vigorously alter the space even inside the rooms.

In these intimate spaces characterized by a wooden floor that becomes a wall covering, the intense interweaving of meaningful words allows the guest to communicate with the surrounding environment, with my thoughts, with those of the Borin family, and to transform the experience into a memory to be shared. The common areas characterised by neutral colours and iconic expansions of the hotel logo are designed to involve the guest in an improbable visual and functional dimension. The muffled hyper- communicative spa, with its strong visual identity, is designed to transport the user into a surreal void.

A peculiar olfactory note and selected sound harmonies complete the synaesthetic, enveloping, totalising whole. You.Me through its own content and form; through coherent fusion; constant contamination between figurations, light, words and unexpected functionalities; perfectly expresses a concept that is dear to me: to translate the complexity of our time into simplicity.
