YUFUIN TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE

Outline We proposed Tourist Information Centre for Yufuin that is known as a spa town with many inns around Yufuin Station in the Yufuin tourist Information centre competition.

In the 2nd stage, we competed with Pritzker prize architect, Shigeru Ban.

Art Landscape The tourist information centre situates in front of Yufuin Station, which provides easy access to the downtown area and hot springs. Start from here, an exciting journey is about to begin.

Our design not only focuses on the building itself, but also pays attention to the circulation in the surrounding. In order to separate motion and stillness in this space efficiently, we arrange the flow of pedestrian and vehicle in front of the station with some meeting points scattering around. Travellers can easily find their way in this busy but organised area.

In this scheme, barrel vault roof, sett paver, greenery are the main design elements, which come from the existing context and the natural landscape of Yufuin. By applying these elements throughout as design codes in the tourist information centre and the entire front of the station, we would like to realise a coherent overall development of this area.
