Orel 475 m2

I want to share with you our new modern-style project, which we successfully completed at the "Zapovednik" housing complex in the Orel park. This project took us almost a year, and we invested all our knowledge and creative energy into it.  cottage96 On the first floor of the building, we placed a canopy for two cars, a garage for two cars, as well as a utility block with a pantry, boiler room, and bathroom. An important element was a separate volume of the kitchen-living-dining block with a beautiful exit to the terrace with a fireplace. cottage96   The sleeping block on the second floor includes three bedrooms, one of which is the master bedroom with its own bathroom, dressing room, and terrace. Also, on the second... Mais

Thoughtful and understated Sereneco by Carpenter and Mason takes cues from its raw Brooklyn context

In a relaxed neighbourhood of Brooklyn, Sereneco by Carpenter and Mason is located on the ground floor of Greenpoint, also known as Brooklyn’s historic Pencil Factory building. Nicole Franzen The studio explain their design process for Sereneco was highly intuitive, feeling out a space that would be reflective of owner Billy van Dolsen – thoughtful yet understated, and taking cues from the existing raw space of the Greenpoint location. Nicole Franzen Designed shortly after the quarantine lockdown ended in New York, the restart prompted the designers to look into local architecture and prioritize the relationship between architecture and the natural environment. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian community served as a... Mais

McLean Mansion draws inspiration from the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and Piet Mondrian

In McLean, Virginia, the McLean Mansion developer Ahmad Khreshi of North-Virginia based Home Perfection Contracting collaborated with architect Peter VanderPoel and designer Karen Bengel to create this modern house that borrows from Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of incorporating the house into the landscape. The house is also influenced by the Mondrian style, a movement named for Piet Mondrian characterized by colourful arrangements of squares and rectangles.  Nakamoto Forestry The house has three distinct masses — garage, living and bedroom — and three levels, each one set at a different ground level. Designed first by hand and then by computer, the asymmetrical window pattern is laid out in the Mondrian sty... Mais

LOYD DIJKZONE

KlokGroep has commissioned 78 spacious new-build apartments on an artificial mound in the green Dike Zone along the River Waal in Nijmegen. The spacious apartments, contained in three buildings, offer space and tranquillity close to the city and panoramic views of the river and the green landscape.    Situated on a mound The complex consists of three volumes that step up in height and increase in size, creating a sense of spaciousness and openness. Similarities in design and materials ensure that the three unite to form a close-knit ensemble. The biggest and tallest building consists of six floors and, in terms of height, appears grandly imposing beside an old orchard. The other two buildings, five and four floors in height, ar... Mais

Unrealized Arizona State Capitol building by Frank Lloyd Wright comes to life

Earlier this year, Archello wrote about virtual architectural tours during the Covid-19 pandemic, and particularly focused on the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s virtual tour portals. The Foundation has extended on this virtual theme by enlisting Spanish architect David Romero to bring one of Wright’s never realized projects to life through 3D photorealistic renderings, digitally rendered designs translated into images which are so detailed that they appear as contemporary photography.  David Romero The original Arizona State Capitol building in Phoenix was constructed before Arizona reached statehood, and as the population grew it became clear that the capitol needed to be extended on. In the late 1950s, the state co... Mais

New opportunities to experience the world's greatest architecture arise in the era of COVID-19

In response to the Covid 19 pandemic resulting in museums, cultural sites, and tourist destinations shuttered to visitors for the foreseeable future, the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy has come up with an innovative solution.  The foundation recently launched a social media initiative offering virtual tours of a dozen of the architect's best known sites, including Fallingwater, Taliesin West, and Unity Temple. The project was conceived and mounted in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation, and features weekly online streamed virtual tours conducted by gallery and site directors acting as tour guides.  The initiative is indicative of a growing trend toward virt... House NJ

O mercado... Mais

Zarichta Accounting

This is a 50 Sqm office occupying a single office space, originally formed by two rectangles. The only access is located on one of the transversal sides, while the other comprises the external façade, being almost entirely covered by glass windows. Longitudinal sides are opaque and make borders with neighbor offices. The space gives place to an accounting expert service company. Given the reduced area and the necessary five workplaces – manager plus four standard workplaces –, also a reception, kitchen and one toilet, an open office strategy was adopted. This enhances the internal space perception and provides functional freedom. In addition to that, the existent ribbed slab is left apparent to amplify the internal volume... Mais

Hillsborough

This Japanese-inspired/craftsman, heavy-timber house was directly influenced by our client’s love of nature and their desire to build a home in a style that spoke to them. They definitely did not want a cold modern box nor did they want to build a historical revival house so typical of this affluent community. We designed the house using natural materials that clearly express structure while emphasizing the cozy and intimate versus the grand. Although traditional in feeling, the house is a casual house designed for a lifetime of living for this family of five. Located on a remarkable 2-acre hill-side lot with 180 degree views of the Bay, the 6,000 square foot new house replaced a nondescript rancher. The main rooms have been placed a... Mais
Push and Pull: in this installation of an E32H electric fireplace, the minimalist mantel pushes out into the space while the built-in shelves recede into the wall creating architectural intrigue as well as practical storage.
Bidore 140 by Element4: This wall has it all – beautiful wood cabinets, a discrete television installation, a corner fireplace and even a Bowie/Prince hybrid neon art piece! What more could you ask for?
Bidore 140 by Element4: The horizontal overlap of the chunky black mantel and the grey stone make for a beautiful transition between materials and help extend the linear nature of this modern gas fireplace.
Embrace asymmetry: sure the architect could have called for a 15′ linear fireplace to run the length of this wall, but the real question is, would that make this space any more interesting?
This H Series 3 sided fireplace features an impressive custom steel vent hood. This vertical wayfinder is a subtle signifier to guests as they enter the lobby and make their way to the check-in desk. St. Gregory Hotel, Washington D.C.

Fuseika

This small residential project is located near Frank Lloyd Wright’s Yamamura residence in Hyogo pref. Japan. The house sits in between two rivers enabling the house free from using any air conditioning equipment by letting the river breeze into the house. This is made possible by planning a neutral zone between the interior and exterior perimeter covered with louver sliding doors. These louver sliding doors control light, wind and the privacy of the house by moving them according to the daily weather or the time of the day.Reinforced concrete structure was chosen for this house in order to give a strong massive image of the main frame with slight sensitivity and a contrast with the wooden sliding doors. Cantilevered thin concrete frame enab... Mais
