Sendero Verde

Sendero Verde is a demonstration to the world that Passive House is possible for large-scale affordable housing. Sendero Verde is a transformative development in New York City’s East Harlem that is a vibrant mix of affordable housing and community services. The development serves 700+ families with incomes ranging from formerly homeless to 110% of the area median income. Pocket Laneway House

Clad in shiny corrugated galvalume, Pocket Laneway House rises up and over a carport, propped aloft partly by a v-configured steel column on helical piers. This structure’s eye-catching, treehouse-like massing is anything but arbitrary: by making minimal contact with the ground, the residence preserves the root health of a mature maple tree on this constrained site.  Birdhouse Media Birdhouse Media Birdhouse Media David Whittaker David Whittaker The owners are a travel writer and a recently retired buffalo rancher, with two young children at home and one older child living independently. The couple originally selected Weiss Architecture + Urbanism to design their Toronto home, which occupies the street-f... Mais

Shudell House

Weiss Architecture + Urbanism’s light-filled Shudell House imaginatively addresses aging-in-place design issues while negotiating the ‘bowling alley’ dimensions of typical residential lots in older parts of Toronto. David Whittaker Birdhouse Media David Whittaker Its owners are a travel writer and a retired buffalo rancher with two young children at home and one older child living independently. The couple wanted an easily adaptable home, suitable for their kids’ evolving stages of life and their own long-range needs. From the outset they knew they also wanted a laneway house that could at some point become a caregiver’s residence. (For information about this auxiliary dwelling, please see Weiss... Mais

PROJECT LUXEMBOURG

The historic building 'Luxembourg' is located in the coastal area of “Poseidonio athletic Centre” in eastern Thessaloniki. The location of this project carries significant historical weight, as is the case with many buildings in the city, particularly those near the Thermaic Gulf. During initial research on the site, it was discovered that a Catholic monastery once stood in the area. In the 1970s and for about 30 years, a famous seaside entertainment venue operated at the same spot, bearing the name 'Luxembourg', a name that has been preserved to this day. The area later underwent significant changes with the land reclamation of the new waterfront, and in 1973, the residential building, as we know it today, was constructed, repr... Mais

Ricardo Apartment

Bringing urban aesthetics indoors, creating integrated spaces ideal for hosting friends and family, were the guidelines defined by the owner of this 120-square-meter apartment, located in São Paulo. These premises guided the interventions of architect Vinicius Almeida, principal architect at Brazilian firm StudioVA Arquitetos. Caption For the homeowner, a young single man who spends much of his time traveling for work, the primary goal was to create a home that would serve as an anchor amidst his constant comings and goings—a refuge where he could truly settle and put down roots. Caption In the renovation, the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen was removed, and the beam was restored and kept in exp... Mais
