Over 840,000 people live in the ger districts of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, sprawling districts of gers (traditional felt tents) and self-built houses. Most households use an average 4.1 tons of coal or coke briquettes for heating each winter as temperatures drop below -30°C. These guiding principles shaped the form and programming of this multi-unit residential project located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. BRIDGE Housing, a leading nonprofit affordable housing developer on the West Coast, and KTGY, a national design firm focused on architecture, interior design, branded environments and urban design, have announced the completion of Kalmia Rose at Jordan Downs. Developed in collaboration with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), this thoughtfully designed affordable housing community provides 76 units, including 39 replacement units, in podium and walk-up buildings within the Jordan Downs redevelopment in Watts, California. SAT is part of the Schichtgründe, a historically prominent industrial area that was reprogrammed in 2013 into a multi-functional city quarter, with housing for 2.000 new residents.
