Lotus Gateway International Airport

I. Introduction: The Genesis of the Concept For decades, international airports have functioned as monolithic machines of concrete and glass—utilitarian spaces that prioritize logistical throughput over human well-being. The Lotus Gateway International Airport represents a paradigm shift in aviation infrastructure, reimagining the modern transit hub as a space of profound serenity, ecological harmony, and cultural resonance. Inspired by the Nelumbo nucifera (the sacred lotus), this design concept draws upon the flower's universal symbolism of purity, resilience, and rebirth. Just as the lotus emerges immaculately from murky waters to bloom in the sun, Lotus Gateway emerges from the chaotic, high-stress landscape of global travel to... More

DFS Van Don Airport

A new pavilion for Vietnam’s Van Don Airport recalls the textures of mid-century Modernism and the rocky mountains of nearby Ha Long Bay. Located directly on the departures concourse, one of the main challenges for the pavilion lay in balancing a sense of enclosure with the need for product visibility. Three solid walls which house the back-of-house and display walls form the backbone of the pavilion, while pigmented concrete screen blocks form a visually transparent facade. A feature display for beauty products is installed at the far end, illuminated from above by a triangular skylight.
