Afterlight

Emerging quietly from the suburban hills of Los Angeles, Afterlight embodies the gentle strength of renewal — a sanctuary where light and landscape come together to heal, nurture, and reconnect community and faith. Conceived as a rebirth through light and landscape, the project reimagines the local chapel as a place of shared belonging, rising humbly from the ashes to restore hope and continuity. Caption Rooted in the vernacular of Southern California chapels, the design draws from familiar forms and honest materials — simple gables, stone bases, and soft rooflines that merge naturally with the landscape. Three distinct volumes step down the sloping site, each connected by serene garden cloisters that form a contemplative... More

50 best architecture firms in the United States

The United States of America is the heart of modern architectural spirit, with the world’s best firms pushing the boundaries of design, innovation and sustainability. It was during the 20th century that American architecture established its distinct identity. The inception of the Chicago School of Architecture revolutionized building construction, paving the way for the birth of the skyscraper. Iconic architects like Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright further challenged conventions, embracing new materials and organic design principles. Bayhouse by Studio Rick Joy responds to the local building vernacular while inventing an aesthetic of its own

Presenting a unique verticality, Bayhouse by Studio Rick Joy responds to the stormy and snowy weather conditions of the American northeast and reflects the local building tradition of large shed roofs while also inventing an aesthetic of its own.  Jeff Goldberg / ESTO The steep slate roof sheds rain and snow in the same way as the seventeenth-century wood-shingled houses of the area. The horizontal white-painted, clapboard wood siding typical of seaside homes in the area is however here reinterpreted as stacked white granite with hand-carved sloped windowsills and thresholds.  Jeff Goldberg / ESTO The ceiling on the interior follows the same form as the roof itself, sloping up toward two copper-lined belvederes –... HI-LO

While designed for a specific client and a site with opportune zoning and planning, Hi-Lo Hybrid tackles a prevailing narrow lot condition along Toronto's main streets. Despite the demand for increased density and housing options on these existing transit and mixed-use corridors, they remain largely underdeveloped, including an estimated 250km composed of existing single-family homes reinforced by low-rise residential zoning and planning. Outdated zoning and current planning policies limit the range of infill opportunities, driving homogenous stacked townhouse forms, as well as outsized mid-rise developments and retail spaces requiring long term lot assembly. Over time these development models become further entrenched. Hi-Lo Hybrid demonst... More

LACMA

My concept is based on the activity of museum (Art Museum) and the previous position of the old buildings but completely different in structures, facades and surface areas. This design is divided into four separate buildings with artistic exterior designs which are connected together via glassy airy tunnels although each building has several entrances for easy access of visitors. The big center building is different from others because it is supported by pilots like Le corbusier 's design due to provide more than 3000 square metre open area for outdoor activities.Big center has three levels with 3190 square metre floor area. The art of american building includes four levels with  3366 square metre floor area. Ahmanson building has five le... More
