The new Nordic pool in Erstein is an extension of the existing aquatic center, whose expressive architecture is surprising: shell-shaped, garish colors, large bay windows. Project introduction: In this emerging environment of knowledge-driven economic growth, it is imperative to inculcate a scientific temper in the community. The Gujarat Council of Science City, established by the Government of Gujarat, has developed the Aquatic Gallery to realize this vision. This 5th generation facility, part of the sprawling 200 acres Ahmedabad Science city, is India’s largest and first planned public inland aquarium, catering to the vision of edutainment. To anchor the west end of the campus and signal that the school has grown from an agrarian focused curriculum into a 21st century comprehensive high school, HED was brought in design the new Livermore High School Athletic Complex and Aquatic Center. The Legends Aquatic Center is a state-of-the-art facility providing exclusive training space for UC Berkeley’s intercollegiate aquatic athletes. It features a new 50M stretch pool with a two-centerline dive tower, locker rooms, and a multipurpose training room. The design establishes a connection with the university, creating a regional athletics precinct, and, at night, is a glowing beacon activating what was once a dark corner of the campus. Located fifteen miles north of the U.S./ Mexico border in southern San Diego County, CA, the single-story, two structure aquatic center marks the realization of National City’s long-term goal to replace a makeshift facility housed in trailers for over a decade.The 5,500 sf complex is sited on the southern edge of a 5½-acre public park offering unobstructed views towards protected wetlands, the San Diego Bay, and beyond. The eastern structure houses a large gathering space beneath a sloping, mono-pitched roof. Perched atop its base of glass walls, the roof floats as a kite slices into the air, creating a fluid dynamic for its substantial counterpart.
