The new Nordic pool in Erstein is an extension of the existing aquatic center, whose expressive architecture is surprising: shell-shaped, garish colors, large bay windows. The Nordic extension project takes the opposite approach to the existing building thanks to a refined and sober expression.
The new 25m outdoor pool is located at the heart of a strongly connoted space that is perceived as a patio or an "open-air room." This new place is an outdoor space perceived as a warm interior, a setting that accommodates the stainless steel pool.
The walls of this outdoor room border the public domain to the north and east. A boundary wall of light raw concrete, textured formwork, ensures privacy between inside and outside, the wall is the support of a "servant" thickness grouping: lockers, cabins, showers, storage. The whole is protected by a light canopy made of wood and zinc. The materials are sober and durable.
The boundary wall is made of rough, light-colored concrete, meticulously executed. The canopy is composed of a natural zinc roofing laid over exposed Douglas fir boarding. Solid Douglas fir beams with a 2m center spacing, supported by galvanized steel posts, support the roof. Below, the cabins and all utility areas are partitioned with raw Douglas fir planks.
