Williams Crossing Pedestrian Bridge

As part of the City of Tulsa’s vision for the improved Zink Dam area, schlaich bergermann partner (sbp) was asked to design a new pedestrian bridge that would provide a safe and modern crossing between the east and west sides of the Arkansas River and replace an existing bridge that was deemed structurally unsound and in need of major repair.  High Caliber Captures High Caliber Captures The result is the 1,440-ft-long Williams Crossing, which is supported by eleven 120-ft-long arch spans and an approach span. The semi-integral bridge was designed with extremely slender deck-stiffened arches built from 3-1/4″ plate of weathering steel and is curved in plan. Optimized and structurally expressed steel nodes allow fo... More

Windesheim Bridges

The monumental estate Windesheim has been enriched with eight new bridges, designed by NEXT architects. Together they make a series of recognizable connection points and seating areas on the walking route through the park. The elegant arch bridges appear and disappear in the landscape. The design is not a literal reconstruction, but an interpretation of the style characteristics of the historical heritage, with a modern, contemporary twist. Past and present come together. The historical research and the master plan for the renovation of the estate were drawn up by H+N+S Landscape Architects. NEXT architects designed 8 new bridges for the estate to add a new layer and make the park more attractive and accessible. Eva Bloem Windesheim Es... More

Puente Puçol

FVAI main goal consists of creating a new structure, simple and integrated into the landscape. This is about a bowstring bridge, close to the countryside, which cross over a ravine. For this reason, design dimensions are adapted to the morphology of the place. The bridge span is 30m long and arches are 8m high. By this way a very light structure is achieved, keeping modern proportions according to current architectural patterns.  The aesthetic principle of the design, remains in the intuitive understanding about how the structure works. For each side of the bridge deck, two arches are used. The inner one is vertical and supports vertical loads from self-weight and live loads, i.e. vehicles and pedestrians. The outer one, leans sligh... More

Pedestrian Bridge over Miramon Park

The footbridge at Miramon Green Park is thought as an instrument to discover the Park as you walk along. Created as an additional walk of the park, its curved design invites to look towards the parkand and it reduces the perception of its slope. The footbridge is characterized by two lines which with their movement defines the footbridge and its connection to the ground, but they mainly define a trace in the landscape. The footbridge has a curved part, providing a nicer view at the beginning of the walk, and creating a natural way, a viewpoint over the landscape. More

Destructor Bridge

COWI (previously Flint & Neill) and Knight Architects won the competitive bid to design the replacement for the 1870 “Destructor Bridge” in Autumn 2012. The new 45m span will carry pedestrians, cyclists and highway traffic across the River Avon and will connect the Bath Western Riverside development with the existing city. The design is a structurally efficient steel arch form, asymmetric in cross section, which addresses multiple site constraints including a very shallow construction depth. It also provides the development with a modest riverside landmark and is conceived as a destination for pedestrians as well as a cross river connection. Working with the masterplan design guidelines, the design places highway protection to the edges... More
