Earthboat Cave
Set along the wooded edge of Lake Shirakaba in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture, Earthboat Cave is a compact timber retreat designed to immerse visitors in the landscape. Conceived by London-based architecture studio PAN- Projects under the philosophy of ‘nature escape’, the cabin demonstrates how small-scale architecture can reduce environmental impact while strengthening connection to place. Built entirely from Japanese cedar cross-laminated timber (CLT) and installed without permanent foundations, the structure rests lightly on the terrain, preserving the forest floor beneath it.

Distillery of Modern Art offers an architectonically complex tasting experience
America’s Vickers Design Group recently unveiled The Distillery of Modern Art, a warehouse turned distillery, gallery, and event space located in Chamblee, Georgia. The distillery portion is conceived as a square rotated 45 degrees, breaking the traditional grid and serving as a feature element regardless of where you are within the larger tasting bar and restaurant or event areas. Gin and vodka are distilled via a visually arresting thirty-foot column which forms the centrepiece and heart of the space and lends a sense of immersion to guests.
