Conceived during a “design hack-a-thon” selection process, the concept for 2+U creates a strong connection between the building’s form and the Northwest’s character, resulting in a true Pacific Northwest building. Located next to the Seattle Art Museum, 2+U creates a seam of compelling pedestrian connections that knit together the waterfront, Pike’s Place Market and the Central Business District. A 3 tower development with the front tower housing larger exclusive residential units complete with a majority of the units having direct elevator access from their suite. This 10 storey tower along the waterfront framed with a 16 storey + 18 storey tower at the rear, defining a central outdoor courtyard space for the residents. The goal of this project was to transform an existing storage on the roof of a residential apartment to a livable place. Considering the fact that existing space was very limited, design team initial concept was to incorporate all the residential required spaces in such a small space. Unlike the typical process of dividing the space into various spaces, and each space for one specific activity, 45 sqm. home offers one single space which changes constantly based on different functions and activities. The project area has been isolated between residential area, Ege University residences and İzmir-Manisa main arterial road. This isolated attitude of the zone is reflected to the project area due to the inadequacy of the socio-cultural functions of the transfer zone and the open area density can not be kept permanent. Moving from the above data, the project subject is to convert the Evka3 subway station exit area into social center and transfer station by reinforcing it with the ESHOT terminals that are to be reorganized. This modern home, of 9000 square feet, is located in an affluent, waterfront community. While there were no unusual programmatic requirements, the client wanted to achieve a sense of drama in the architecture and interiors; most importantly to capture the panoramic views. The house emerged as two slender volumes that oriented themselves perpendicular to the primary viewing plane. A double height space connects these two parallel wings. The connecting volume acts as the entry in to the formal living room and dining room, featuring full height glass fenestrations, in both the front and the back.
