Un Obradoiro is the outcome of a wood design-and-build workshop held with first-year architecture students from CESUGA (Centro de Estudios Superiores Universitarios de Galicia) in A Coruña, Spain. Led by Sebastián Erazo and Stefano Pugliese (Erazo Pugliese), together with resident professors Javier Caride and Tomás Valente, the workshop was co-financed by XERA (Agencia Gallega de la Industria Forestal / Agency for Forest-Based Industry) and conceived as an initiatory experience for students who had just completed the second semester of their studies. A sinuous, spine-like sculptural installation winds through the space, providing a 120-foot-long continuous interactive display. Mirage stood at the entrance to the AFROBANANA Festival in Lefkara like a portal beckoning visitors to step beyond the everyday. At first glance, it appeared as a sleek, hexagonal corridor of mirrored surfaces, the angles carefully chosen to produce a disorienting yet captivating interplay of reflections. By night, battery-powered stage lights illuminated the panels from the outside, casting shifting patterns of light that intensified the illusion. De Zwarte Hond has completed the circular renovation and extension of Leiden University’s former Cluster Zuid building, now named Herta Mohr, serving the Faculty of Humanities.
