Transformation of a farmhouse in Grandvillard

The project involves the creation of three apartments in an 18th-century farmhouse. The Fribourg farmhouses of that era house both residential and farm functions. The living quarters are located on one side, while the agricultural section generally consists of two stables flanking a central passageway called a fourragère, used to feed livestock. A distinctive feature of this building was the duplication of this layout in depth, originally allowing for a second accommodation.   David BARD David BARD David BARD David BARD However, this feature disappeared following an extension of the rural part. The project therefore aims to restore the coherence of the whole by rebuilding the lost dwelling. The extended area... More

The rural section typically consisted of two stables flanking a central passageway — the fourragère — a through-space used for feeding livestock, which also benefited from additional height allowing hay to be stored above the stables. Messner

At the foot of the Sciliar, in the picturesque area of Alpe di Siusi (Bolzano), the spirit of a barn is reborn as a home. The project, realised by noa* (network of architecture), has at its core, the South Tyrolean tradition combined with surprising features internally, resulting from design of visionary and unexpected spaces. An almost magical ambience is created, inspired by childhood memories.   Keep tradition in mind, but at the same time move away so as to create an original identity, a new way of living, a different structuring of the domestic space, and to search inspiration from a childhood passed in the mountains. This, in summary, was the challenge faced by noa* in the project to construct a new home at Siusi in Sciliar, a... More
