In one of the highest hills of São Martinho do Porto, near Alcobaça, on a ridge line marked by windmills, lies João Branco, a modern residential house overlooking a beautiful bay and 180º degrees of ocean view.  The house is an isolated single dwelling with over 600 m2 of construction area and approximately 300 m2 of external terraces with a swimming pool. NOIR Abbesses is conceived as an immersive interior inspired by a walk through woodland undergrowth — an enveloping atmosphere shaped by organic forms, layered textures and a palette drawn from autumn foliage. The design translates the natural language of the forest floor into soft, sculptural seating elements, whose rounded geometries subtly recall mushroom forms. These organic volumes guide the spatial experience, creating a sense of movement and discovery throughout the space. Since 2016, Matière Première Architecture and its sister company Nu Drom, a construction firm, have worked in close partnership. Their shared ambition was to find a permanent site that could embody their identity — an identity defined by the seamless integration of design and construction.
