Bringing play indoors, the CaytonChildren’s Museum was designed as a series of unexpected spaces that inspire kids to learn about and engage in their community. The 20,095 SF museum adaptively reuses part of the upper floor of Santa Monica Place, a retail center originally designed by Frank Gehry, by transforming a former artisanal food hall into the home of a Museum dedicated to the imagination and wonderment of being a kid. The modernistic event building RheinMainCongressCenter (RMCC) of the architect Ferdinand Heide, recently finished, is standing in opposite of the neo-classicist Museum of the architect Theodor Fischer, built in 1915. DAY & LIGHT designed the lighting of both facades as well as the outdoor space, to create a town square lighting in a holistic way (except the street lighting).The lighting of both facades were coordinated to each other: The luminance and light colour contrast shows the layer structure and transparency of the RMCC - warmwhite on internal wooden surfaces and neutral white on the colonnades. Museum for Aquatic Plants is located in Hengshui, Hebei province. The three pavilions are located on terrestrial ecology, and three pavilions are located in the water ecology. A circular corridor connects six pavilions in tandem. Connection of Terrestrial Ecology and Water EcologyThe museum is built at the boundary of the land and the lake, half wading and half on the ground. Because the site contains water and terrestrial ecology, we have found a tipping point to place the building in between, so that visitors’ experience of water and land is linked together. Long known as a vibrant arts campus, the School of the Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno, has hosted the university’s art, music, theater, and dance departments at its arts complex designed by renowned Modernist architect Richard Neutra since 1962. The historic Louvre was constructed as a royal palace and was fundamentally ill-suited to serve as a museum.The challenge was to modernize and expand the building and better integrate it with the city, all without compromising the integrity of the historic structure. The two-phase solution involved reorganizing the long, linear building into a compact U-shaped museum around a focal courtyard.A centrally located glass pyramid forms the new main entrance and provides direct access to galleries in each of the museum’s three wings. Occupying 2,900 square meters of exhibit space on three levels, this V-shaped museum is cantilevered over the ruins of Fort Thungen, part of defensive system that once secured Luxembourg’s reputation as one of the most fortified cities in Europe.The museum is superimposed on the outer embankment that originally surrounded the arrow-shaped inner fort. The newest addition to Tacoma Art Museum, the Benaroya Wing is a 6,595-square-foot expansion to house the Benaroya Collection, a legacy gift donated to the museum by Rebecca and Jack Benaroya. The design of the Benaroya Wing balances opacity and transparency to provide optimal viewing conditions for more than 350 works of glass art, paintings and sculpture by Northwest and international artists. The MaxMuseo originated from the desire to dedicate a museum for visual and applied arts to the graphic designer Max Huber. On request, the city of Chiasso provided the architect with a garage site that had stood empty for years as a location for the new museum. This industrial wasteland, an area of noman’s land in the urban ensemble between the theatre and school district, was the subject of an overall plan: the vision of a new location was created.
