A space for the diminishing and evolving vernacular. A concept developed by J+A Design studio for a museum of language.
The idea of the spatial planning of the museum is to create
an interactive environment with active participation of the visitors, offering
a technology based learning and enabling them to re visit. This criterion
was fulfilled by creating a fluid planning with static and dynamic zones i.e.
Museum zone (Dynamic-Zone 1) and Learning zone (Static-Zone2)*.
The expressions attributed to the zones defines the purpose as: Dynamic-
Zone 1 (G+2 museum zone) would illustrate the life of a language as an
intangible cultural heritage showcasing the history (origin), present context
(contemporary) and future aspects (dark/bright or positive/negative
future). Separate sessions can be planned for various languages e.g. 3 hrs
for a language can count 3 sessions of different language/day. The
session methodology would use virtual reality and holograms for an
impactful learning.
Static-Zone2 (G+2 learning zone) would be a permanent place for regular
visitors/individual practitioners/researchers etc.equipped with data
collection, multipurpose & lecture hall; digital library etc.
These zones are linked with a Transition region (Zone3) accommodating
open interactive spaces; open air theatre and a periscopic viewing
gallery i.e. a viewing expanse which provides a number of intermediate
levels giving a wide viewing angle to and from the zones 1 and 2. This zone
also allows the visitors to absorb the enthralling experience with a relaxing
interactive space with OAT and outdoor sit outs.
Zone 4 includes the administration and utility spaces. The built area has an
accessible terrace flanked by a parametric roof.
Learning is a process; process is flow and flow is the ‘Stream’.
