Attic expansion

The attic in private house from the ‘80’s gained modern look and extra space with an abundance of natural light thanks to the FAKRO EDT dormer. Nowadays, the inhabitants can enjoy a beautiful view of the polder of Amsterdam. The house is situated in a row of similar houses in the city of Zaandam (near Amsterdam). Beautiful view of Amsterdam ‘Last year we bought a house erected in the 80’s. We both love to do odd jobs and thought it was a good challenge to make this house more contemporary. When our son was born, we decided to make the attic a real ‘mom and dad’ paradise. The roof of the three-storeyed residential building from the 19th century should be rebuilt and extended to an apartment. For geometric, static and building physical reasons the extension was not realizable with the existing roof construction. For that the roof timbering was removed completely and rebuilt in form of a pitched roof. To align the geometry of the roof space for residential use the ridge line was raised but subordinated to the neighbor building. Attic expansion of a multifamily house in Berlin. More

A large Berlin block of flats in Bötzow district, built in 1905, with a representative front building, side wing and rear wing was extensively refurbished in a partially inhabited state. The originally rich stucco facade of the front building had mostly dropped off and the remaining elements were irredeemably dilapidated. For the reconstruction of the facade a stucco version from the construction period could be moulded from the mirror-inverted neighbouring front building. All flats received bathrooms, the partly still existing pedestal toilets were removed.
