This is a revenge story.

Antonio and Chiara, together with their sons, are the main characters.

Everything started with their wedding and their dream to star a family more than ten years ago.

They searched for their love nest and they found it a three-room apartment placed at the last floor of a building under construction; that apartment had also an attic directly connected with a stair.

Thirteen years have passed since the day they found their nest, but their attention concentrated just on the bottom level of the house: the attic was used only as storage room.

But in the meantime, they had children and they began to feel the necessity of having more space without leaving the house they already had. Thanks to common friends I met Antonio and his family in the same exact moment when this urge became impellent.

They explained me their necessities and needs and how they were living their own place: the attic was a real mess, a place in which the family put their stuff without any only kind of order.

The attic was a unique space characterized by many limitations due to the irregular shape of the building and small natural light. In this place the family dreamt of having their daughter’s bedroom, the small offices and a multifunctional space in which they could play guitar and host guests.

The main problem there was not how to solve their needs but rather how to be able to maintain a good amount of storage room in order to keep most of the things the family collected in the years and to enhance some pottery Chiara received from her beloved grandmother.

The attic project arose from the effort to solve all these needs.

Storage closets ware obtained by moving back the limit of the room where the heights were not enough to stand up easily. Starting from the 4 existing windows and keeping the existing stairs as the core of the project, the rest of the space was then dived into 4 rooms where everything was thought and specifically designed.

The architectural project was defined and customized in order to realize a sequence of hierarchized rooms which are able to maintain a visual relationship among them; all the furniture pieces were designed in order to accord perfectly to the space and to limit the interventions on the existing walls by incorporating artificial lighting.

Taking advantage by the irregular shape of the space and its low covering, the project allowed the family to answer all their needs. Even the fine pottery found its final placement in a double-sided piece of furniture placed in between to rooms: this double-sided drawer allowed to separate to space maintaining visual uniqueness and becoming a lighting element.

Fine…this was a very small project…

But it raised all the difficulties of a more complex and vast one, demanding spatial and aesthetical answers to the needs of a family.

This was a family revenge project.

A project made for living. A better living.
