Harts Farm

With our Harts Farm project, we delved deep into the sites history, character and surrounding buildings, and noticed the strong farming past which is commonly associated with the area. Along with a barn influence, the proximity of the large neighbouring barn lead us to design a building which took a contemporary stance on a traditional form. Although contemporary in form, the proposal takes on a sensitive approach in order to respect the historic character of the area and the Grade II Listed status of Harts Farm Building.  The materials proposed also reference back to the existing agricultural buildings. The River View House

With elevated views of the river running through the valley below the site, the house was aptly named the River View House. Located in Johannesburg, South Africa, the site is nestled amidst a small forest of thorn trees and grassland. The compact, yet steep site presented a gradient of 1:1 which brought with it many challenges, but at the same time Gottsmann Architects saw many more opportunities. This set the tone for the project and so the concept began. The large open-plan layout provides unobstructed views of the forest from within the interior spaces of the house.... More

The Floating House

The concept was to provide a single elegant form, cantilevering out into the tree canopies and over the landscape. Conceived as a house within the tree canopies the extension is clad in sweet chestnut which enhances the relationship to the surrounding mature trees. Large sliding glass panels link the inside spaces to its unique environment.  More

Vertical House

Located on one of the few lots in Dallas elevated enough to enjoy a view of the downtown skyline, the five-story Vertical House rises dramatically above the treetops to capture views of the surrounding gardens and the skyline beyond. Characterized by clean lines, sheer glass walls, and sculptural sun shades, this sharply-detailed house offers an intriguing counterpoint to the tropical ambiance of its forest-like setting. The client, an avid collector of exotic plants, wanted a house that would not only maximize views of the site, but also maintain privacy from neighboring properties. In response, the house was conceived as two interlocking, contrasting volumes: one half is transparent and oriented toward views of the... More

Private Yacht

A yacht offers constraints and opportunities to architects and designers alike. An interesting set of challenges arises when it is realized that a vision must not only be structurally sound, innovative, aesthetically beautiful and comfortable, but it must also float. Being afloat in a modernists retreat has been a long sought after dream for these clients. The state of art design of this yacht incorporates the latest technology, utilizing carbon fiber. The finest goods were chosen to adorn the yachts interior. Outdoor textiles were employed in the interior spaces to ensure the client would have the calming, clean white aesthetic that they sought after, without compromising the durability and longevity. Hand selected Macassar Ebony with... More
