Campusbridge Hasselt

Campusbrug Hasselt: A Luminous Connection for Cyclists and PedestriansThe city of Hasselt welcomes a new landmark to its urban landscape: Campusbrug, a 410-metre-long pedestrian and cycle bridge crossing the Grote Ring. Combining architectural elegance, accessibility and carefully considered lighting, the bridge creates an important connection between university campuses, public transport and urban amenities. Oblique Bridge

The Oblique Bridge was part of the M30 highway until the underground works in 2005 left it abandoned and slated for demolition. It is a valuable structure from 1969 by the engineer Fernández-Casado. The deck is a slender post-tensioned concrete trapezoidal slab with a complex, gently banked and curvilinear layout reflecting the ‘high-speed’ geometry of the highway. Ana Muller Imagen Subliminal The undergrounding project required the demolition of one of its abutments and foundations and the cutting of the ribs, leaving the bridge partially cantilevered. Despite this damage, the structure remained standing. The Madrid Río project renovated it into a pedestrian and cycling bridge. This rehabilitation invol... More

New York Financial Bridge

Our primary goal in the NEW YORK BRIDGE project was to answer the need for more open and green spaces in the compact living and working areas in Manhattan’s financial district and the world-famous Wall Street. To achieve this, we at Kalbod Design Studio designed a suspended bridge that connects the financial district of Manhattan with the green areas of New Jersey above the Huston River while creating a magnificent view of the Statue of Liberty on the North Atlantic Ocean. Caption This bridge has two access levels; one is 35 meters above the water surface and provides an impressive panoramic view. The other level is 10 meters below the first, provides an amusing pedestrian path, and offers multiple gathering spaces for people to... More

The new N69

The ‘Greenest Road of Brabant’ makes geographical connections and embodies the connection between infrastructure, the valuable landscape of forests and stream valleys, and the people with their interests. The renewal of the 8,5 km provincial road has increased the liveability and accessibility of the N69 and its border with Belgium. By constructing a high-quality road that is placed naturally in the landscape, the user experience has been optimized. Maximizing spatial quality, integration, sustainability, and ecology was therefore one of the most important project objectives in the elaboration of the integral design. Paul Raats The new road winds through valuable and vulnerable agricultural land, forests, and nature reserv... More

New office building in Antwerp takes the form of an urban bridge

In Antwerp, the new 146_Province Headquarters by XDGA (Xaveer De Geyter Architects) is a new build replacing a former complex of modernist volumes that could not adapt to current sustainability standards. A compact sculptural volume with defined triangular openings, the building is conceived as a bridge-like structure over a glazed central pavilion.   Credit: XDGA - Matthias Van Rossen The centre of the main building features one large steel truss spanning from one core to the other. Two more trusses are integrated in the concrete side walls, their triangulation defining the form of the window openings. Dulles Corridor Metrorail Walkways

The new Dulles Corridor Metrorail Silver Line has significantly reduced the commute time between Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. In the first phase of the project, a direct route runs from Washington, D.C. to Tysons Corner, but will be eventually expanded to run all the way to Dulles International Airport. In addition to the new line, pedestrian bridges featuring more than 60,000-square-feet of Banker Wire woven wire mesh were also created and interspersed throughout the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Silver Line. The pedestrian bridges, with Banker Wire woven wire mesh, connect metro stations to parking lots – helping commuters cross busy roads more safely. For this project, efficiency was of the utmost importance, as the bridges... More
