OVERALL VIEWThe Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria consists of a public art gallery and Mapungubwe museum linked to an open museum square which includes a restaurant and outdoor exhibition space located in a publicly accessible portion of the University’s South Campus. Located at the starting point of the hills forming the western border of Konya, Akyokus Hill is one of the most important natural geographical characters of the Konya city known for its flat topography. Akyokus is the only vista point where the city centre and the impressive plain extending to the east can be viewed from. The Konya Metropolitan Municipality has prepared the "Akyokus Recreational Area" rehabilitation project to add this important location and its surroundings to the urban life of the city. The £1.86bn Mersey Gateway is a major new crossing of 2.4km between Runcorn and Widnes, to provide significantly increased local and regional highway connectivity and relieve congestion around the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge.The reference design proposes a unique composition for a major cable-stayed bridge of three towers and two equal main spans of 300m. The 120m tall central tower is 20m shorter than the outer two, with the position of all three being an optimum combination of span configurations, minimised impact within the environmentally sensitive estuary and an overall maximum height set by the approach to the nearby Liverpool Airport. The bridge is adjacent to the monumental prison building on Blokhuisplein, in an area which has a long history and was previously the location of Leeuwarden’s city wall. Designed as a bascule bridge, its arched frame forms an emblematic gateway to the city centre and welcomes the visitor with open arms. The bridge deck soars through the archway from one bank of the canal to the other. The lifting mechanism of the bridge operates through a hydraulic cylinder. More

The bridge is at the centre of a new housing estate and is conceived as a meeting place for local residents of all ages. The area under the suspension arch and tie rods is a good place to enjoy a view of surroundings, and has seating elements where people can rest or play. The curve of the bridge is visible from afar and makes it a landmark in the urban surroundings. More
